Working With A Family Doctor

About 10 years ago, my friend convinced me to switch to a new family doctor. Our new physician was caring, enthusiastic, and extremely detail oriented. When he performed physicals, he didn't hesitate to order blood work or to investigate a strange symptom. This year, that great care really paid off. My doctor discovered a small skin lesion, which turned out to be cancerous. This blog is all about the benefits of working with a professional family doctor. Check out these articles to find out how to choose a health care clinic, and what types of symptoms you should report to your doctor. You never know, it could save your life.

Figuring Out If You Have ADHD: What You Should Know

A person is unlikely to admit they have a mental health problem until it begins to affect their everyday life. This is often the case with adult men and women who may have been suffering from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) for years without realizing it. However, once that person begins having difficulty at work or with basic home tasks, they may find themselves in need of more information and assistance with the issues they as dealing with. If you suspect that you may be suffering from ADHD, get to know more about how the disorder may be affecting your life and how you can find out with certainty that you have ADHD. Then, you can begin the process of getting treatment and help so that you can get your life back on track.

Possible Signs An Adult Has ADHD

ADHD is a disorder that can affect both children and adults. However, it does tend to present differently in adults than in children. Fidgeting frequently when seated or being unable to sit for prolonged periods of time are signs that an adult has ADHD. Additionally, people who interrupt frequently or who talk a great deal may also have ADHD, especially if they cannot control these tendencies even when they make an effort to do so.

When at work, adults with ADHD may find themselves struggling to follow or remember directions, stay organized in their tasks leading them to forget or misplace things, and can make other mistakes that appear careless because they are unable to keep focused on their tasks. Many times, an adult with ADHD will be either predominantly hyperactive or inattentive. So, if you feel you have attention issues but not a lot of hyperactivity, you may still have ADHD.

How To Tell For Sure If You Have ADHD

When you are concerned that you may have ADHD, the first step to take is to seek out a psychologist or psychiatrist to have an ADHD evaluation. Much of the evaluation that you go through is discussing your personal history with the doctor. This includes family history, medical history; your records in school, work, and activities; your psychological history; and your development as a person.

Additionally, you will talk to the doctor about your current situation and how you are coping with the tasks of your daily life such as home life, work, or school. This will be an in-depth evaluation of your past and your present, and it is important to be 100% honest with the evaluating doctor to ensure a proper diagnosis. There are also numerous tests, scales and checklists that you will be asked to fill out to get a better idea of whether or not you have ADHD or another disorder (or none at all).

Now that you know more about how ADHD can manifest itself in adults and how you can find out for sure if you are suffering from ADHD, you can start the ADHD evaluation process and get the treatment you need to overcome the issues you are dealing with. The sooner you do so, you can get your life back on track. If you need ADHD information for your child, talk to places like Rainbow Pediatrics.
